Jump 25 Basketball Remembers
Javonté Clanton

                            August 12, 1988 - March 18, 2009

Javonté Clanton became an OFFICIAL member of the JUMP 25 Basketball Family during the Summer of 2008 as he was a regular in our Individual and Group Workouts, as well as the invitation only "High Level Up and Down" run at LifeTime Fitness, The Ohio State University's Schottenstein Center (the Schott) Auxilary Gym, and the J. Ashburn Youth Center Gym.  He trained and competed with and against most of Central Ohio's top players, including NBA players Mike Conley (Memphis Grizzlies) and Chris Quinn (Miami Heat), European League pros Scoonie Penn, Shaun Stonerook, Terrence Dials, Leon Rodgers, J.J. Sullinger, Brian Brown, Kenny Gregory, Ron Lewis, Jermaine Guice, Rob Owens, Chris Dunn, Devin Green, Tony Rice, and college players Chris Crockett (Columbia Univ.) and Robbie Taylor (Mt. Vernon Nazerene Univ.), and JUMP 25 Founder/Director Johnny Clark.
Javonté was always one of the first to the gym and the last one to leave.  In between, he worked HARD.  When he got tired, he worked harder! In fact, it almost seemed like he never got tired.  Wearing his trademark sleeveless, skin-tight Under Armor shirts he would give us all he had in the workouts and games.  Being a newcomer to the group, the older guys - the Pros - immediately recognized and appreciated his work ethic, his willingness to learn and accept their critiques/suggestions, and they acknowledged his ability to play the game with a maturity well beyond his age.  Because of those things, they embraced him and accepted him into their "Basketball Fraternity"... and he is one of us forever.  I'll never forget one of the pro players coming over to me and paying Javonté a tremendous compliment...the ultimate compliment!  After a game, on the third day that Javonté had been working out with us, Leon Rodgers sat down next to me, pointed and nodded towards Javonté on the court and said "JC...Young Boy nice!"
Javonté Clanton was a joy to work with and it was an honor and priveledge to know him.  I've been there and done that, seen it and coached that, so I can say - without a doubt in my mind - that Javonté was well on his way to reaching his goals in basketball.  I've received emails and calls from our guys playing in countries all over the world and we are all shocked and saddened at Javonté's passing.  We miss him already and this summer we will hold his spot in our workouts and games...we KNOW he'll be the first one to get there and the last to leave.  We love you Young Fella.
